Alpha's Substitute Bride - Chapter 131
Chapter 131: Belated Feelings
Atticus’ POV:
At the moment of the explosion, I turned into my wolf form. This way, Eloise and I would not be hurt.
She looked at me in surprise. She didn’t understand why I was there.
She staggered and got up from my body. She still looked weak, but even so, she didn’t want to continue leaning on me.
After she got off my body, I turned back into my human form and supported her. She looked very surprised and completely dodged after coming into contact with me.
I knew she thought I was trying to get close to her, but it was a subconscious reaction. It took Soren and Bishop a lot of time and effort to find this place. However, when I found this place, I rushed over as soon as possible.
It was not too late to thank the Moon Goddess.
As for my worry for her, it must be due to the mate connection, but it was no longer important to me. I tried to pretend to be calm as I helped Eloise and called for a doctor to treat her injured leg and foot. I placed her in the car. During this process, her eyes were filled with confusion.
What kind of life had she been living recently? I didn’t even dare to think about it.
This was all my fault. I should have protected her. I knew someone would hurt her, but I was still terrified.
I still chose to leave, and that was my mistake. I needed to think of a way to make up for it now, even though it might be too late.
I looked at the remains of the burning house. There was even a broken window, which was where Eloise had jumped down from.
It was very high up there, and falling from there, even if it fell on the terrace, would hurt her. I didn’t know how she persevered, but I must examine her properly.
I almost couldn’t breathe when I thought of how much pain she had suffered. My chest started to hurt.
This was indeed my mistake.
I wanted them to pay the price for this.
But no matter what, I didn’t expect this house to be blown up. There was no evidence at all.
My subordinates didn’t find any information either. In other words, the moment Eloise escaped, they had already thought of a way to deal with her.
This proved that the other party had not completely lost her mind, even though taking Eloise away was already an act of losing her mind.
However , we couldn’t do anything without evidence. That would put me in a very awkvvard situation.
But now, I’d decided to believe in Eloise. I didn’t think she would lie to me about this.
Or rather, I didn’t think she would lie to me.
I gave her a blanket. She was wrapped up and curled up there like a pitiful little animal.
I didn’t try communicating with her because she probably needed her silence more. But when she sat there, I couldn’t help but lean and stand quietly beside her.
I ordered more people to leave as soon as possible and to guard the door not far away. The firefighters would be here soon. I didn’t want to look like we had any bad thoughts.
When the firefighters arrived, they only saw Eloise and me, as well as one of our cars. This made us look as harmless as possible. As Eloise didn’t want to be hugged by me, I could only sit beside her with a glass of water in my hand. I made myself look more like a friend and not someone else.
They were asking what had happened here.
“Are you sure you don’t know anything?” I was asked again.
‘Yes, we don’t,” I said frankly. However, it was clear that they didn’t completely believe this.
“The explosion happened when we were standing here. You can take a look at my car’s camera.”
I knew that Soren would help us erase these traces in the end, but it was better to leave a better impression for now.
However, I wanted to know who started the fire, too..
