Alpha's Substitute Bride - Chapter 118
Chapter 118: Perplexing Behavior
Eloise’s POV:
My meeting with Atticus wasn’t smooth, but it wasn’t a big deal. After all, our relationship was already like this. I couldn’t help but feel worried for him. After all, this was our territory, so I had to be more careful of him.
That person was one of our customers. I was very sure of that. I said to my wolf, “I don’t know why Atticus feels the need to avoid me. This is not a big deal. He’s only making things more complicated.”
“You don’t understand him, and you don’t understand yourself.” My wolf sighed and stopped talking.
I didn’t understand why it would have such an attitude, but at least I didn’t feel sad. I continued sitting in my original position.
Half an hour later, Chloe arrived. She looked a little anxious, but she was generally fine.
She said she was coming in advance because we needed to decide what to do on New Year’s, so I’d been waiting for her. When we met, she was carrying her laptop.
“I still have some work to do, so I must come here to deal with it.” She yawned and sat down.
“1’ve been swamped recently. I think you should have heard some things.
She was in charge of law-related work, so I knew what it was related to. She had to complete the job, I couldn’t provide any help.
After a few minutes, she finally closed her laptop and sighed. Her work was finally over. I looked at her expectantly.
“By the way, do you have any thoughts on the next party? I mean, I’ll get you a dance partner or something.” She looked at me seriously.
I’d never thought about this. So I just shook my head at her.
“Did Atticus look for you?” she asked again.
“After all, you two are the most suitable pair.”
I knew she was considering what was more suitable for me, so I could only sigh.
“Actually… I don’t think he has such thoughts,” I answered earnestly.
When I saw him today, he seemed to be still thinking about his job. He didn’t have thoughts about the party.
“But it’s a party, after all. It’s impossible that he can’t find someone to be his companion. He’s an Alpha, after all,” Chloe mumbled as she picked up her computer.
“The internet connection in this place is terrible… I feel like I’ll never be able to finish my work.”
I wanted to say that it was an empty room with almost no one in sight, but after thinking about it, I decided not to say so much. I just sat opposite her and quietly ate my dessert.
Then, I heard a cough. I turned around.
Atticus was standing not far from us. At some point, he had also come to this room.
I suddenly realized why they were there. They must have something to discuss, but they didn’t even know we were here.
I didn’t want him to see us, but it seemed there was no way to avoid it. I looked at him thoughtfully, afraid he would say something out of the blue.
“Hey…” the man behind him seemed to want to ask something.
“I need a female companion.” He looked at Chloe and me. Then, he turned his head around.
“But I don’t think that’s a choice that can be easily made.”
“Ah, that’s what we thought, too, right?” Chloe mumbled as she lifted her head and turned away, completely unconvinced.
She didn’t want to look at Atticus anymore. It was the same for me.
“Let’s go find us something to wear. After all, you still need to have your own…”
I waved dismissively, indicating that it wasn’t a big deal because I was strong enough to ignore these.
Chloe kept her laptop. I followed her to the living room. Those people were already here. Now, we could start looking for something to wear..
