Alpha's Substitute Bride - Chapter 105
Chapter 105: I Have To Be Faster Than Her
Lisa’s POV:
“Atticus? I didn’t expect you to be here still. How are you doing now?” I looked at Atticus and tried my best to smile. However, he was not as interested in me as before.
He was very formal. He was treating our current interaction as an ordinary social gathering.
Although I didn’t like him, I still couldn’t help but feel sad. It was the kind of sadness that came from losing something that originally belonged to me. Initially, everything he had should have been mine be it his wealth or his pack.
But now, it seemed that I had messed up.
I could only turn around and look at the others still waiting for me.
Based on the current scene, this couldn’t be considered a formal Alpha gathering, but there were enough people. In particular, some packs could almost be called the family of the Werewolf King in the past.
I think, as a future Alpha, I needed their recognition.
I wanted to have a good chat with them because I would inherit a whole pack after all. However, I didn’t expect Atticus to be here.
Under his leadership, the two men with the Oak Pack also showed a lack of interest in me. I couldn’t say anything and only smiled as peacefully as I could. Then, I watched as they continued to chat about some unknown topic.
He wanted to gain their recognition. I was sure of that, but I didn’t think he had that kind of influence. He might have lost during the trial, but that would only make me regret it because I could have used his identity as his mate to get what I wanted.
Soon, they ended the conversation. From the vague information, I could tell that it was probably related to vampires. I had some conjectures about that matter, but I didn’t care.
“Atticus?” I tried to call him to see if he was willing to talk to me again. Even if he could speak a few more words to me, I still thought it would be my chance.
I didn’t know if he had discovered something, but at least he was not willing to be in contact with me now. He turned his head away as if he didn’t hear her. I subconsciously covered my chest. There was a faint pain there, and then there was nothing. I smiled and turned around.
I came here for a very simple reason. I needed to confirm who would attend this and try my best to win them over before that.
I knew that even if there were no news, Eloise would want to come here. I had to figure out everyone’s movements before she did, which was not easy.
However, if those things were to be exposed, our pack would be in trouble.
‘Maybe you can try again. As long as she doesn’t come here, and there is no news about her, then you’ve won,” my wolf commented.
That was quite an attractive suggestion.
I wanted to do the same now.
As long as I was faster than her, she’d lose.
Atticus had disappeared from my sight. I heaved a sigh of relief and returned to the two of the Oak Packs members, but before I could speak to them, they had already turned around and left.
Whether this was a coincidence, I still felt something was amiss. Perhaps this trip wouldn’t be as smooth as I had imagined. I heard many people talking about humans and werewolves.
There was only one person who could appear on this topic. Eloise, what did she do this time? It seemed like many people were talking about her.
I looked at the sky outside the window. The fireworks were in full bloom. Beautiful golden rays of light shone through the skylight.
It was indeed very beautiful and suited everything that had happened here today. However, I was not in the mood to appreciate it.
The people around me were discussing Eloise and her family. Her situation was very special, and she had already attracted their attention. However, the most important thing was that Eloise was the one who bought all of their hearts.
She had put in so much effort here, so many people had a good impression of her.
She was a little smarter than I assumed, I thought. However, I wouldn’t change my original plan because of this..
