A Sorcerer's Journey - Chapter 479
Chapter 479: Self-sacrifice
A day later.
The dark flames burned profusely. It was a World Guardian of the Infernal Spirit World!
After Grimm had led the Abyssal Demons that had consumed the large Acraepoid encampment like floodwater, he finally found a larger camp where the Acraepoid survivors had set up base.
“The source of all our sufferings, Grimm!”
The World Guardian’s voice was filled with wrath. If he could, he would have choked him to death and consumed his flesh and bone.
Behind the World Guardian stood two hundred over Acraepoid Commanders and four to five thousand-strong army of Warriors.
An Acraepoid encampment of this scale would probably be the largest gathering site of the Acraepoids of the Infernal Spirit World, other than the First Acraepoid Kingdom.
Ten-thousand over elite Abyssal Demons spiraled around Grimm like a protecting vortex.
Grimm had gathered almost ten million Abyssal Demons along the way. The creatures were like the walking dead; their will seemed to have been controlled. They spread across the land and the sky where Grimm was. The terrifying abyssal breath around them seemed so intense, as if the abyssal demon clouds above had grown thicker by a few centimeters.
Behind him were Solumn, Wicky, Millie and Claudia who were all with different expressions. Grimm waved his staff. The torrent of Abyssal Demons stopped dead in their tracks.
Beneath the Mask of Truth, his dual-colored irises were looking at the World Guardian.
“Feeling vengeful against me?”
Since most of the Infernal Spirit World had been turned into the abyss under the Sorcerer’s Will, the World Guardian’s power had been drastically reduced.
The World Guardian who once wielded the world’s power of channeling the dark flames up to thirty meters, and made even the Stigmata Sorcerers cautious could now only channel about ten-meters’ worth of dark flames.
This World Guardian was merely a Level-2 creature!
Nevertheless, powers aside, the World Guardian symbolized the hope of the world. That was why he still had many followers.
Within the dark flames, the pair of azure-colored eyes looked toward Grimm.
“Why did you invade the Infernal Spirit World? The Sorcerers World is so powerful. Before this, we have never even made contact with the Sorcerers World!”
Perched on Grimm’s shoulder, Little Myna was losing patience. It taunted the World Guardian, “Since when does the Sorcerers World need a good reason to invade a low-level world like this!”
“No!”
Grimm interrupted Little Myna abruptly. Beneath the Mask of Truth, he looked on at the World Guardian of the Infernal Spirit World with great interest.
“If it were other worlds, the Stigmata Sorcerers would probably think of many excuses for an invasion. When your Infernal Spirit World invaded the seven enslaved worlds, did they need any reason to do so?”
Grimm paused for a moment before smiling. “But, the Sorcerers World did not invade this world out of reasons that were evil. It was an attack out of the Sorcerers World’s self-defense, hehe hahahahaha….”
Grimm burst out into laughter. His laugh was bewildering.
“What do you mean?”
The World Guardian asked in a chilling voice as he saw Grimm laughing demeaningly and heedlessly.
Thump!
Grimm stomped his feet, warning the enmity-filled Infernal creatures and the blood-lust Giant Abyssal Demon to quiet down.
The Giant Abyssal Demon represented the will of its surrounding Abyssal Demons.
Grimm descended into his past memories.
“It was about seven centuries ago. I was like the trembling Acraepoids standing behind you, an insignificant little Sorcerer of the Sorcerers World. One day, my teacher asked me to perform a mission. A mission to assassinate a Black Sorcerer-Apprentice.”
Standing on top of the Giant Abyssal Demon, Grimm slowly told of his story in front of nearly ten million restless Abyssal Demons.
“You will never fully comprehend the value of those ordinary human beings. So many great wise Sorcerers failed to construct the Sorcerer’s Tower, the one thing that stood between a great Sorcerer and a Stigmata Sorcerer is because they do not have enough common people to support them. Therefore, each sorcerer’s academy would never allow a huge drop in population within their jurisdiction!”
Grimm’s voice was bright; his words righteous. He was standing on the moral high ground of human beings across the Sorcerers World.
Perhaps, in the eyes of the Infernal Spirit World, the Demon-Hunter Sorcerers were utterly sinister.
But from the point of view of the Sorcerers World, hunting down Black Sorcerers, defending the order and laws of the Sorcerer’s Mainland, ensuring the continued lineage of the Sorcerers World had made the Demon-Hunter Sorcerers the second guardian of the world!
“And in such a mission, I’ve had a discovery by chance. A great life form from a foreign world was corrupting Sorcerers to gather the souls of ordinary human beings within the Sorcerers World!”
At this moment, it was not clear whether Grimm was thrilled or vengeful. He glared at the World Guardian of the Infernal Spirit World as well as the Acraepoids that were hiding behind him.
What followed next was a slurry of light, cynical jests.
“I was still a small-time Sorcerer then and thought to myself: a great existence like that, why would he gather the souls of ordinary human beings? As souvenirs?”
“Hehehe, it wasn’t until a century and a half ago did I realize the truth. He was trying to open a gate, a gate that connected the two worlds, a gate that would allow him to pass through the unending void to conquer the Sorcerers World!”
Grimm spoke coldly, taunting the Acraepoids in the distance with his insults.
Even the four Sorcerers behind Grimm had their jaws dropped.
So, there was a backstory to the expedition into the Infernal Spirit World?
Judging from this, it was probably the main reason the Dawn Sages and the Seven Rings Necromancer had made the decision to obliterate the Infernal Spirit Civilization.
The World Guardian of the Infernal Spirit World was almost breathless. He asked begrudgingly. “You mean…”
“I mean?”
Grimm laughed in a deep voice.
“The one who was gathering human souls in the Sorcerers World, the great being that attempted to infiltrate the Sorcerers World, that was your Dark Destroyer Infernal God! The Sorcerers World merely launched a counter-attack by invading this world!”
At the sound of a buzz, Grimm aimed his Sabbatic Goat Staff to the front.
“Thus… this evil world that tried to desecrate the Sorcerers World shall be dealt with the most extreme of ways, hehe hahahaha…”
Rumble!
Almost ten million Abyssal Demons from the sky and on the ground charged at the Acraepoids that did not even make up ten thousand in numbers at Grimm’s will. Their fangs were out. The abyssal demon clouds in the sky were also raging violently.
Beneath the Mask of Truth, Grimm’s cold eyes glared at the World Guardian of the Infernal Spirit World.
“As for you? This world is now an Abyssal World under the sorcerers’ control. It is no longer your Infernal Spirit World. You shall be cleansed outright by the principal law of the world.”
As he finished his words, the demonic abyssal clouds turned into a huge funnel that landed directly on top of the World Guardian.
It was the retribution of the law of the abyssal world!
“No…”
The World Guardian of the Infernal Spirit World whimpered. His black flames were burning furiously to no avail. The black flame was ripped apart by layers of the Abyssal World’s powers.
The other Acraepoids were far too weak. Like Grimm when he first reached the world gate, the power of the world could not even sense their presence.
As long as they did not step into the kill zone of the abyssal law, these Acraepoids would not be affected by the cleansing law of the world.
But the despair that faced them was not the law of the abyss. It was the millions of screeching Abyssal Demons that were charging at them!
The Abyssal Demons were about to wipe out all of the Acraepoids that were present.
Rumble!
Suddenly, on the ground beneath the shadow of his Giant Abyssal Demon, there was a quake that shook the earth. The ripple plowed through the earth, and the huge Infernal energy exploded out of the ground and shot up into the clouds.
A fifty-meter long scarlet infernal blade was drawn toward Grimm. Its brilliant light permeated through the sky. There was a pair of relentless eyes that appeared to have seen through the unending cycles of life and death!
Screech…
The Abyssal Demons around the light blade swarmed up ahead but were killed effortlessly. Although the light blade was exceptionally huge, Grimm could clearly sense that the tip of the blade was pointed at his heart.
“Another Noble Yimo from the world gate last time had been born.”
However, compared to Yimo last time, this Acraepoid had lost all possibilities of ascending to the World Lord.
This world was no longer the Infernal Spirit World.
Grimm had realized this.
The Ancient Sorcerers could only face-off with the Ancient Phaseless Demons if they had mobilized the same number of soul slave legions, mechanical marionettes, and Abyssal Demons with their abyssal enemies.
Else, they would be like the Noble Acraepoid who could only sacrifice himself for the sake of sneaking up on the Ancient Phaseless Demon who summoned the Abyssal Demons!
In the blink of an eye, the sky-piercing light blade had traveled a few hundred meters, killing hundreds of Abyssal Demons in its path. Grimm was not able to move in more of his Abyssal Demons in time to stop the attack. They moved to Grimm instead.
There was a thirty-meter tall Abyssal Demon that appeared like a giant baby Acraepoid. Its tumorous mouth purged out a feeler that looked like an intestine that curled out in the direction of the thick abyssal breath.
The Giant Abyssal Demon beneath Grimm had a dark-violet claw that was covered in a layer of icy scales. The abyssal fire was burning profusely at the tip of its claw. It let out a screech as it attempted to catch the Acraepoid Noble with its claw.
The thousands of abyssal familiars that surrounded Grimm fearlessly charged head-on toward the scarlet light blade like the currents of a tide. They were protecting Grimm against the approaching Acraepoid Noble.
Screech!
The familiars were like moths to the flame. They were decimated within a hundred meters of the approaching blade. The fifty-meter huge scarlet infernal blade pierced the dark-violet claw of the Giant Abyssal Demon that he was riding on. It seemed unstoppable!
The self-sacrificing look in his eyes that was filled with determination was like the Ancient Sorcerers who had defended their honor with no fear of death.
