A Sorcerer's Journey - Chapter 315
Chapter 315: Surficial Tundra IV
Three months later.
Outside the craft was a howling blizzard that limited their visibility to just a few meters.
The world beyond the Starfall Reconnaissance Craft was pure white. From time to time, there would be large pieces of rocks, or ice crystals smashing into the machine at high speed, making a loud “ding” before ricocheting off from the impact. Still, the Starfall Reconnaissance Craft had not sustained any visible damages from these impacts.
In the cabin of the aircraft, Grimm’s eyes flashed around under the Mask of Truth. He was using the Boundless Eye to study the patterns on the broken twig. Instinctively, he stored the twig into the Dimensional Gap before opening up the Frost Elemental book to further look up related information.
The moment Grimm first grasped the basic laws of this Burrow World, an urgent task came into mind, which was to activate his Frost Elemental skills by acquiring it from other native creatures like the Wooly Hail Mammoth from before. That undoubtedly, would make up for his lack of knowledge about the Frost Element, achieving the level of knowhow Grimm had on the Fire Element and other similar abilities.
As for the message in the reconnaissance crystal ball, it didn’t really matter to Grimm that most of the creatures that lurked in the depths of the Burrow World had extremely strong spell attacks.
Spells were strong, but they are rare.
The most memorable thing Grimm had about spells was from the Fake Faceless Sorcerer and Hill Wood’s Holy Tower qualification battle back during their sorcerer apprenticeship.
Spellcasting was closely related to Elemental Sorcery as it used the knowledge about laws and basic principles to manipulate the elements,
The ultrasonic locating ability of Grimm’s Mask of Truth was another spell that used basic knowledge about the world’s laws. However, Grimm had no intention to further develop in this field of knowledge.
As an Elemental Sorcerer, Grimm’s first choice was to research opposing energies to generate Destructive Energy, and thus manipulate higher tier laws.
Once Grimm managed to master the use of Destructive Energy, his combat capabilities would multiply exponentially in an instant. Perhaps, it would allow Grimm to further develop new abilities and under certain circumstances, he could even get the chance to kill higher level lifeforms.
Grimm’s second choice was to further study the relationship between the Life Code Fissure and the Wild Instinct Transformation, revise on the basics of Intoxication Sorcery.
Once his skills in this field were refined enough, Grimm would try to merge it with his own Elemental Energy and become one of the Elemental Anatomy Refinery Sorcerers found on the Sorcerer Continent.
If he could succeed in this, Grimm would turn into a matured Level-3 great sorcerer that had a strong foundation in taking part in special Demon-Hunting missions of varying difficulties.
The third choice, was acquiring knowledge about chimeras under the Code of Life and Death.
In this field, Grimm already had a long-term goal awaiting him, which was to imitate the Holy Tower of the Seven Rings and merge the bodies of his Savage Flame Giant and the matured chimera which he was researching. This could potentially create a new creature that combined the Elemental Energy with a flesh and blood lifeform.
Grimm already had a rough outline in mind for his project of combining metals with flesh and blood elemental lifeforms thanks to the two mysterious pieces of metal he got from Lefay back at the Shadow Enigmatic World!
The complete integration of biological cells, the elemental energy, and metals into a single body would mean that Grimm would have his own basic “Holy Tower of the Seven Rings” system of knowledge.
The fourth option was Soul Energy.
Through Grimm’s enlightened visualization of the words from the Devil’s Pact, experiencing his own self-rebirth, witnessing the reincarnation process of that sorceress the Dwarf Tinlady, as well as seeing Third Ghostpepper’s soul sorcery, he had developed a keen interest in this field of sorcery.
At least to Grimm’s knowledge, if the day comes where he was called upon for an expedition in the foreign world which the Devil Lord ruled, It would be the prime chance for him to obtain knowledge about special soul sorcery and pave his way to his research on soul sorcery.
Perhaps even…
A further away goal was that if he were to become a Stigmata Sorcerer, Grimm hoped to inherit the knowledge about the Dimensional Gap from Myna, and master his own form of sorcery involving the Dimensional Gap and the Spectral Space.
A sorcerer that combined sorcery from the Spectral Space and the Spectral World would undoubtedly be named the strongest sorcery system in the field of Elemental Sorcery—the Spacetime Seal!
The basic requirement to obtain Spacetime Seal was to perfectly control the entrance into the Spectral World.
Grimm suspected that Black Isotta must have used his one-of-a-kind spiritual energy to create his own Spiritual Spectral World and mastered his own form of Spacetime Seal.
From the dark corners of the Tower of Ruins, to the unique sorcery of the Sabbatic Goat Staff with the Nightmare Shadow sealed within it, and the time when Black Isotta led him and Peranos on a vacant stroll through his secret territory, it all made Grimm feel like it all occurred in a Spiritual Spectral World, or at least it was some form of a spiritual illusion.
Whichever sorcerer that mastered seal sorcery, including the Spacetime Seal were all challengers of higher level lifeforms. It was also the greatest strength the low-ranking sorcerers possessed in the face of high level lifeforms!
On the other side.
Myna was lying lazily on the Sabbatic Goat Staff that rested on Grimm’s shoulder. He cushioned his head using his two wings, and rhythmically shaking his feet, which hung in the air as he crossed his legs. Both his eyes were lost in the white blizzard outside the Reconnaissance Craft as he fully soaked in the intoxicating taste of his favorite fruit juice.
The Bloodlust Doll moved around outside the craft, controlling it autonomously as it concluded that Grimm wasn’t fully paying attention when maneuvering the craft due to the continuous hail of obstacles that collided with them.
Half an hourglass later.
Whoosh…
As if breaking through a dense layer of snow, they had finally made it through the battering blizzard territory and the sky around them descended into tranquility once again.
“Caw? We finally made it through the blizzard territory. Thank God, caw caw caw…”
As if he were “revived”, Myna tossed his fruit juice away and flapped his wings around as he cheered on.
With a flash, the Bloodlust Doll caught the cup of fruit juice, preventing it from spilling over before slowly putting it into the storage cabinet behind Grimm’s seat.
Both his eyes were no longer blank, nor was his body lazily lying around. It was as if he swallowed a handful of stimulant drugs, Myna flew around the interiors of the Starfall Reconnaissance Craft as he looked down at the endless desolate tundra below them.
The Starfall Reconnaissance Craft was caught up in the blizzard for two full days.
This kind of extreme weather was completely unimaginable in the Sorcerer World, with the exception of the relic craters of the ancient necromancers.
On the ground, groups of large native creatures of the Burrow World would occasionally appear resting. Some of the more sensitive creatures would lift their heads to peer at the Reconnaissance Craft which cut through the sky into the horizon in a flash.
“Caw caw, young master, it seems we can already start searching for entrance points from here on out. I don’t know how far back since we shook off the other Demon-Hunter Sorcerers. Now we can finally focus on finding the mission target. Even if there were other Demon-Hunter Sorcerers that flew over in our direction, they would only eat our farts from behind, caw caw caw caw…”
Myna laughed hysterically.
Grimm put down the book in his hand. Far away, in his field of vision, he saw a narrow opening hole still uncovered by the piling snow.
Without hesitation, Grimm replied with a “Hm” before the Bloodlust Doll started reducing their cruising speed, guiding them towards this narrow opening, their minds synchronized.
Thud, thud, thud, thud…
Startled by this “alien object”, this creature that looked similar to the elk from the Sorcerer World galloped away at high speed. These creatures’ hooves seemed to have developed the ability to grip onto the slippery ice surface. As it ran across the icy ground, flowering patterns of cracks appeared as loud thuds were created by the ice cracking.
As it ran, this creature kept looking back. It observed the alien object that was the Starfall Reconnaissance Craft with its low instinctive intellect.
In their limited cognitive capacity, they would never come to understand what weird creature this three-meter black sphere was.
Shwoop!
With Grimm’s savvy working of the Green Python Thread, they managed to capture this elk-like creature before it escaped out of their maximum range. Despite its desperate struggle, Grimm dragged this creature into the craft without even breaking a sweat.
After looking at it briefly, this weak little creature was turned into a creature specimen by Grimm before being tossed into the Dimensional Gap.
“Caw caw caw, eating grilled deer meat today, young master?” Myna asked with pleading eyes.
“If you’d like.”
After becoming an official sorcerer for hundreds of years, Grimm had turned into one of the mysterious sorcerers that he had previously been looking up to during his apprenticeship. He had gradually dropped his interest in delicacies.
Having said that, what’s up with Myna’s obsession with food? Was it because of the creature’s tongue structure that caused it?
Myna was obsessed with his never-ending journey to taste foods of different flavors. Not only that, he had the ability to not feel sick after continuously eating the same dish for years on end. His overwhelming desire to eat made it all the more confusing for Grimm.
This guy must taste even more delicious than the delicacy captives. Perhaps it should be renamed “Super Snack”.
Click!
The upper half of the metal screen on the Starfall Reconnaissance Craft opened up. Grimm stood up from his seat, and with his two palms supporting himself on the cross-section of his craft, he closely studied this narrow entrance hole as they went deeper into the opening.
Myna, standing on the Sabbatic Goat Staff also turned his head to the left, to the right in curiosity.
Hiss…
As he discovered traces of a group of Snowthreads, Grimm exhaled in relief and said gleefully, “Found a mission target, another Sorcerer Essence earned.”
As Grimm activated the Isotta imprint on his sorcerer barrier, its shapeless waves spread through the area, as if to confirm that it was indeed an entrance into the Burrow World. Shortly after, a mystical magic array created hundreds of pure black energy threads that weaved into a large net.
Grimm waited silently beside.
After about a tenth of an hourglass, the large net from the Isotta imprint had been fully weaved across the narrowest point Grimm picked, after which Grimm retrieved the imprint.
Once again, the metal sheet upper half of the Starfall Reconnaissance Craft had closed shut. Grimm maneuvered his craft forward at high speed, leaving this hole in search for other ones.
