A Sorcerer's Journey - Chapter 219
Chapter 219: Collapse
“Master, have a good trip! I’ll be right here waiting for you! Caw! Caw!” The Myna’s cynical laugh echoed from afar.
Grimm paid no heed. He was trying to keep his Amonro body under control. His slightly plump body flew up slowly. His nose would sometimes let out a grunting voice. His short limbs and hooves were absolutely adorable. The long golden tail spine looked unnecessarily out of place.
Dum… dum…
The wall of flesh around the Camphoragate passageway was squirming non-stop. There were faint sounds of fluids flowing.
Grimm’s Amonro body passed through the layer of flesh swimmingly with the aid of the Camphoragate Traveling Potion. His golden tail spine looked like a crocodile’s tail when it’s swimming; whipping about from left to right, pushing his body forward quickly.
Grimm was surveying both sides through his watery, shimmering little eyes. They were very adept.
Judging from the looks of it, the creature known as Amonro could make a good pet.
Occasionally, there were sleeping Amonros around with their long snouts sticking out the wall of flesh. Their whole body was swaying around defenselessly. From an outsider’s view, they seemed pretty relaxed.
Some of the Golden Amonros did pass by Grimm within the wall of flesh. Apparently, since they were in the layer of flesh, there were no interactions between the Amonros. Grimm just passed them by, headed toward his destination.
Grimm was surprised by how easy it was to infiltrate the depths of the Camphoragate Tree.
Three days later.
Grimm didn’t have the subtle skills of the previous Dark Sorcerer who could determine the interior structure of the tree by just observing the directional flow of the Camphoragate flesh liquids.
Therefore, it took Grimm three days to find the flesh mushroom square after going in circles within the Camphoragate Tree labyrinth.
The area of the flesh mushroom square was noticeably larger than the other Camphoragate flesh mushroom squares Grimm had been in. There were many signs of recent excavations on the flesh wall surrounding it.
Slip!
Grimm, who had turned into the plump, little Amonro squeezed his head out from the wall of flesh and shook his long ears. After confirming that there wasn’t any high-level lifeform about with his tiny pair of eyes, he slid down the squirming wall of flesh like the rest of Amonros who were feeding.
Huff… huff…
Grimm shook his long, golden tail. He lowered his head and started to feed on the strange-tasting flesh mushroom; as if he had become a locally-born Amonro. His mimicry was on point.
However, strains of green fluids would sometimes drip out of Grimm’s mouth. As they dropped on the foreign mushrooms, they would disappear in an instant.
But Grimm knew that the vampiric spores were starting to multiply within the flesh mushrooms, ‘corrupting’ the rest of them.
The way to cleanse the corruption was simple: either by the power of lightning or through cooking.
There was a sinister smile at the corner of Grimm’s mouth. After going around the flesh mushroom square once, Grimm dove into the wall of flesh again. He started to copy the rest of the Amonros. He stuck his snout out of the layer of flesh, while he ‘relaxed’ his body to rest.
The vampiric spores required half a month of incubation period.
After half a month, the initial symptoms of the infection would be blood diarrhea, breathing difficulties, and fatigue.
Within a few hourglasses, it would turn into an outbreak. Their bodies would start to develop a dense layer of colorful, tiny little bumps filled with poisonous spores. Pus would start breaking out before the tissue becomes rotten in the end.
…
Half a month later.
At this moment, Grimm’s eyes were vicious.
Grimm had been observing the habits of the Amonros for half a month from the wall of flesh. These creatures had no other needs other than feeding on the flesh mushrooms on time.
Through this period, Grimm had understood that the Amonros poked their snouts out of the wall while resting to maintain their breath. But their bodies remained inside to facilitate their mating process.
Within half a month, Grimm had been ‘harassed’ for at least a hundred times.
Luckily the other sorcerers didn’t know about this. If the Amonros found out, they would have to be silenced…
From a sorcerer’s perspective, these creatures did nothing but feed and mate, they should be at the lowest tier of the endless world’s food chain. How could they become masters of this world…
They were the lowly parasites of this endless world!
Grimm whipped his tail violently. He was brushing off an Amonro that was sniffing his ‘pheromones’ out. The Amonro who was looking to mate turned away to look for other partners.
“What a bunch of filthy animals. If this world didn’t lack resources, it would be hard to imagine the numbers of these vile creatures.” Dark Sorcerer Grimm’s eyes were cold and vicious.
These lowly creatures had actually won the natural selection, defeating even the Lava Giants to become master of the world?
Still, it had to be said that even though the cool-headed Grimm absolutely looked down upon the lowly creatures, but somewhere in his heart, he was a bit envious at them.
They didn’t have to do anything, yet each mature Amonro basically had the power of an elite knight class. For some of them who had better talents, although they lived like parasitic slugs in the world, they were able to attain the same strengths as a legendary knight, sometimes stronger.
And then there’s the Enigmatic Amonro…
Was the law of the endless world unfair?
No!
It was precisely due to the endless world’s principle of balance that the sorcerers evolved in the most intelligent way, far more than the average human. Even if a normal human being were to be so weak that they could only fill the lowest level of the food chain, the terrifying sorcerers were at the top and could enslave all within the food chain.
Today, tomorrow, and the days that follow…
All the Amonros in the Camphroagate Trees that had fed on the flesh mushrooms in the square in front of Grimm would…
Boom!
As Grimm was in deep contemplation, an energy ripple suddenly blew up in the cave entrance afar. The vibration of the shockwave shook the layers within the passageway. Although the passageway did not collapse due to the wall of flesh, the quake spread toward the inner depth where Grimm was.
Psshh….
Grimm was all too familiar with the energy ripple. It was the natural energy ripple concentrated through the principle of leverage.
However, the ripple was too strong!
For Grimm to be able to feel the shake coming in from the surface although he’s standing deep within the underground, it was most probably a localized flawed spell that had been channeled for some time; or an explosion of a huge cache of energy crystals; or the joint attack of a few rank three sorcerers.
Huff…huff…
The Amonros started to mobilize and converged toward the energy ripple from the wall of flesh.
Grimm had a gloomy look on his eyes before joining the rest of the Amonros.
It was no wonder Grimm acted this way. He did not expect this to happen as he had almost completed his mission. The other sorcerers had this place in their sights and were starting to launch an attack.
Three hourglasses later.
As Grimm looked on the entrance to the underground passageway which was blocked off by numerous collapsed rocks, the rest of the Amonros were panicking and stunned.
The destructive Dark Sorcerer sure wasted no time and effort…
