A Clash of Gods - Chapter 128
Chapter 128 Chi Danmei and Bai Yuhe
Yang Ning found that as soon as Jingkong finished his words, many monks turned pale, and even Zhenming next to him trembled. It appeared that all these people knew who the visitors were.
He had never heard of the Baiyun Island, but he knew the Eastern Qi State.
The Eastern Qi State was a small kingdom located between the Northern Han State and the Southern Chu State, surviving in the crack. The country was small with few people, but they had a powerful navy. It was said that the crown prince of the Southern Chu State went to the Eastern Qi State to attend the ceremony of selecting the heir to the throne. The emperor passed away, but the crown prince was outside and delayed.
Suddenly they heard a clear chirp and then saw something flying from outside the hall. It was colorful like a peacock, but it was much smaller than a peacock. After it entered the hall, all the monks raised their heads. The colorful bird circled in the hall but fell on a beam. It looked down at the large hall and appeared awe-inspiring.
Then they saw somebody come in first, who was dressed in an official’s robe. Several people followed him, and Yang Ning noticed that two of them were quite conspicuous.
One of the two was dressed in a snow-white robe which was spotlessly clean. He had a slender figure, about thirty years old. His long black hair was tied with a band and hung on his back. His face was pure and handsome. He held his chest with both arms and a long sword under his left arm. He looked expressionless and appeared aloof. It seemed that he was otherworldly.
A woman wearing a red dress walked beside him. She was also about thirty years old, like a flame.
This woman was quite beautiful, with a graceful and hour-glass figure. She wore heavy makeup and looked coquettish. Although it was winter, she was dressed in summer clothes and her red dress slit to the thighs. When she walked, the hemline of her dress waved, and her fair-skinned legs were revealed from time to time. Moreover, she twisted her waist and looked sexy and alluring.
The man in white was handsome and the woman in red was beautiful. Each of them was eye-catching, and the two showed up at the same time, so they attracted more attention.
Some monks looked restless when they saw the woman in red elegantly walking in while twisting her waist. Some of them lowered their heads and didn’t dare to look at her, and some seemed to look ahead, but they still peeped at the woman.
This woman was charming peerlessly, and wherever she went, she would make people drool. Moreover, it was hard to see a female guest in the Temple of Great Light all year round, so it was no wonder that these monks stared at her.
Behind them were four burly men dressed in clothes made of hemp. Judging from the way they walked, they were not ordinary people obviously.
When they entered the hall, the official in the front stopped and put his palms together, greeting Jingkong and Jingneng who were sitting at the head. “Masters, I am the assistant minister of the Ministry of Rites, Su Luo. I brought two disciples of the owner of the Baiyun Island to visit the temple. The two respected guests came to pay respect to His Majesty with the envoys from the Eastern Qi State and specially offered to visit this temple. Hope that you can give instructions. Please take care of us.”
He spoke politely to the monks in the Temple of Great Light and was even humble in front of Jingkong. The assistant minister of the Ministry of Rites did like this, so Yang Ning was surprised and also realized that the Temple of Great Light enjoyed an extraordinary position in the Southern Chu State evidently.
The woman in red twisted her slim waist and took two steps forward with a charming smile. Then she said in a sweet voice, “I am Chi Danmei, a disciple of the owner of the Baiyun Island. Nice to meet you, Masters.”
She was gorgeous, and her voice was sweet like a spoilt child. When she spoke, she seemed to whisper in the ear with lovers’ honeyed words. Many people heard that and felt excited with wishful thinking.
Yang Ning also felt itched involuntarily, thinking, “This woman was named correctly. The word Mei (charming) is to a proper extent.”
Although her voice was seductive, it seemed that she was born with it and didn’t affect it, but because of this, it made people’s fancy run wild.
The man’s voice was emotionless and as cold as a stone. “I am Bai Yuhe from the East Sea!”
Yang Ning heard this man’s tone and thought it was similar to his subordinate, Zhao Wushang’s. Both of them were silent most of the time, but speaking of the momentum, Zhao Wushang naturally couldn’t be put on a par with Bai Yuhe.
“I heard long ago that the owner of the Baiyun Island is the imperial master of the Eastern Qi State but lives on the Baiyun Island in the East Sea. He is like a free wild goose and never asks about anything in society, staying aloof.” Jingkong’s voice was gentle. “Although I have heard of the island owner for a long time, I never have a chance to see him. Today I can see two disciples of him, and it’s my honor.” He raised his hand. “Please have a seat!”
Then some disciples brought two cattail hassocks and put them on the floor.
The assistant minister of the Ministry of Rites, Su Luo reached out his hand and spoke to Bai Yuhe and Chi Danmei. “Please sit down.”
Bai Yuhe stood still like a pillar. He didn’t speak or move. Su Luo felt awkward, but Chi Danmei said with a charming smile, “Lord Su, my senior fellow apprentice is like this even when he sleeps. Don’t stand on ceremony in front of him.” Then she walked forward and sat on a cattail hassock on her knees, with her back straightening and her chest out.
“You came from afar, but I don’t know what you want.” Seeing that many disciples in the hall stared at Chi Danmei and didn’t look away, and there was a big number, Jingneng was furious. The disciples in the Temple of Great Light studied Buddhism at ordinary times, and the rules were strict in the temple, but this time a lot of monks gazed at Chi Danmei, and it would inevitably harm the fame and dignity of the temple, so he disliked Chi Danmei who was bewitching to the bone, and his voice was cold.
Chi Danmei showed a beautiful smile and said in a sweet voice, “We came to your country with the envoys from the Eastern Qi State under my master’s order this time and need to do two things. First, we should certainly pay respect to your emperor who passed away lately, and the second is to fulfill my master’s wish more than twenty years ago.” Her voice was feminine and tempting.
This woman was coquettish and enchanting but knelt on the cattail hassock with her delicate skin, so some of the fair skin was revealed on her slender legs. With the white skin and red dress, the red was like the fire and the white was like the snow. Her body was sexy and graceful. She looked like a young lady in her early twenties, with a young girl’s face but a mature woman’s charm.
“Oh?” Jingkong put his palms together. “A wish twenty years ago? Does the island owner’s wish have anything to do with the Temple of Great Light?”
Chi Danmei smiled. “Master, you are old enough and must know something that happened in your temple twenty years ago.”
“Chi, please tell me in detail.”
Chi Danmei replied, “Twenty-three years ago, my master came to your temple after a long journey. The Temple of Great Light is the number one temple nowadays and the royal temple of the Chu State with many great martial arts masters. My master worshiped your temple and changed his name to visit the temple, hoping that he could ask for a lucky chance here, but the people in your temple refused him.”
All the monks turned pale and Jingneng couldn’t help but ask, “Did you say that more than twenty years ago, the owner of the Baiyun Island had been to our temple? How…is it possible?”
Chi Danmei responded in a soft voice, “My master’s name was Wu Dong that year. Do you still remember, Master?”
“Wu Dong?” Jingkong pondered for a while and didn’t speak. Jingneng didn’t like Chi Danmei and felt more disgusted when he saw her coquettish face. He sneered. “Since the owner of the Baiyun Island wanted to enter our temple, why didn’t he come openly but changed his name? Countless people wanted to enter this temple and become the disciples, but the Temple of Great Light is strict in selecting disciples, and not everybody can have the qualification to enter.”
At the moment, Bai Yuhe closed his eyes slightly and held his long sword. He remained unmoved and seemed to have fallen asleep.
But Yang Ning could only see Bai Yuhe from behind. Seeing that the man held his long sword all the time, he thought that this might be a swordsman. Judging from his arrogant and cold face, his swordsmanship must be not bad.
Yang Ning had learnt that the owner of the Baiyun Island was the imperial master of the Eastern Qi State.
He looked at Chi Danmei from behind and found that seen from this angle, Chi Danmei’s body was like a gourd. Her waist was straight and slim, and the outline went down and spread to both sides, forming a round butt line. Because she sat on her knees, the red dress was stretched tight by her chubby hip, which was covered in the dress and looked perfect and plump.
Suddenly Jingkong asked, “Did you say that the assumed name of the island owner…was Wu Dong?”
Chi Danmei expressed in a sweet voice, “It appears that you remember him. Master, do you remember how you refused my master then?”
Jingkong sighed. “As far as I know, the island owner didn’t live on the Baiyun Island then, and you two must not be the owner’s disciples.”
Chi Danmei replied gloomily, “Correct. After my master was refused by your temple, he returned to the Eastern Qi State and then went to the Baiyun Island. He wanted to climb the mountain and enter the temple, and he waited at the foot of Purple Mountain for five days and nights, without eating anything. He almost died here, but the people in your temple didn’t feel pity for him at all…”
Jingneng seemed to remember it and looked at Jingkong, asking, “Jingkong, they talked about that guy…”
Jingkong nodded slightly. “Right, it’s him. It turns out that he is the owner of the Baiyun Island.”
“Humph, he is the Baiyun Island’s owner.” Different from Jingkong who sighed with emotion, Jingneng spoke with disdain. He looked at Chi Danmei and continued coldly, “That year, the island owner came to visit under an assumed name and wanted to be my master’s disciple unexpectedly… My master was the abbot of the Temple of Great Light then, and that guy even asked my master to teach him the “Scripture of Great Light.” He really asked for the moon.” His face was cold. “The ‘Scripture of Great Light’ is the treasure of our temple, and only the abbots can study it. Even we can’t see it, but an outsider wanted him to teach it. Did he want to become the abbot of the Temple of Great Light?”
Chi Danmei was not arrogant or rash, and she didn’t get angry. She still said with a charming smile, “But my master promised that as long as your temple taught him the ‘Scripture of Great Light,’ he would surely make the Temple of Great Light become the first sect in the world. You didn’t accept this offer, so the temple can only be the number one in a corner till now.”
Hearing that, Yang Ning realized something and thought that the disciples of the island owner must have come with an ulterior intention. They must come to vent the enmity more than twenty years ago.
The owner of the Baiyun Island was the imperial master of the Eastern Qi State, so he naturally couldn’t show up in person but sent two disciples.
However, since the Temple of Great Light was the number one temple in the world and the royal temple of the Southern Chu State, it must have a deep foundation. The owner of the Baiyun Island just sent two disciples to wipe out a humiliation, and he was too conceited.
Jingkong was calm as before and put his palms together. “Our temple doesn’t want to be the ruler or the first sect in the world. The island owner’s wish is quite different from the temple’s, so we can hardly get along well. And your master’s request was too much then, so he would be refused inevitably.”
“My master waited at the foot of the mountain for five days and nights, but your temple didn’t give a response from beginning to end, so he could only leave some words on the stone tablet under the mountain.” Chi Danmei laughed. “Master, do you remember what words were on the stone tablet?”
Jingkong answered calmly, “I will come back!”
Chi Danmei chuckled. “Right. He will come back. This is my master’s wish. Today we just came to fulfill his wish.”
