A Clash of Gods - Chapter 11
Chapter 11 Extrication
Yang Ning knew very well that once the other party called out, the consequences would be unimaginable, and even if he could escape while he was in chaos, the fate of these girls would certainly be miserable.
Xiao Yishui and Xing were both killed, and once the news was spread out, it would be a big shock to the entire Huize County.
The web that Xiao Yishui had woven was huge, and the forces involved in it were not in the minority. Therefore, they would certainly seek him out at all costs.
This group of people was an extremely large force in Huize County. In their eyes, Yang Ning was as weak as a pest. These girls certainly wouldn’t have a chance to es-cape from the Hua Mansion, and they might even fall into a disastrous situation as long as someone wanted to annihilate this matter.
Just killing Xiao Yishui might not be too difficult. However, to root this force out, Yang Ning thought to himself that it would never be possible.
Yang Ning was as fast as a cheetah. Although the man opposite him was aware of the movement, he had not yet seen clearly what the situation was. At that moment, he held the hilt of a sword at his waist with one hand while he was coming this way. Suddenly, he saw a shadow pouncing on himself and was shocked. When he was about to draw his sword, a sword light flashed into his eyes, which blocked the view for a second. Then a sharp pain came in his throat.
Yang Ning cut the man’s throat with one action, and the man raised his hand to cover his throat. His eyes were filled with horror. A “gurgling” sound came from his throat, but he was no longer able to scream. His body shook involuntarily, and finally he fell headfirst to the ground.
The girls who followed Yang Ning all looked pale when they saw this situation. They covered their mouths in order not to make the slightest sound.
Only when the night breeze blew on Yang Ning did he feel a cold sweat on his back for this killing. He took a deep breath, dropped his sword on the ground, dragged one of the man’s legs and pulled him towards the back of a flowerbed.
He was a little weak at this point. The man was quite strong and heavy. Xiu’er ran up quickly when seeing this. She pulled up the other leg of the corpse, and helped Yang Ning to pull the man to the back of the flowerbed.
Yang Ning picked up the sword again and took a few steps to get the package he had put down. Then he waved to the girls back him and led them into the backyard where there stood an octagonal pavilion. Xiu’er and a few girls followed, and then they found a hole under the wall when they turned to the back of another flowerbed.
The girls were so amazed and delighted that no one had expected that there was a way out.
Yang Ning gestured for these girls to exit through the hole.
To the girls, this house was like a hell on earth. And it was so worth it to escape through the hole at this time. Not to mention the fact that this was just a hole which looked a bit dirty, even if it were a mountain of fire, they would choose to go through.
At this moment, Yang Ning was standing guard at the gate with his sword, and wait-ing for quite a long time until no movement behind. He looked back and made sure no one left. Finally he went over to the hole. Seeing all the girls have gone through the hole, he also bended and drilled out.
The girls crowded in rows in the narrow alleyway. Yang Ning found that everyone was looking at him when he was out.
Before Yang Ning stood up, Xiu’er had already fallen to her knees, and the other girls didn’t hesitate to kneel down one after another. Yang Ning was startled, then he im-mediately pulled up the girl and said in a low voice, “It is not advisable to stay here for a long time. Hurry up and leave here.”
What happened tonight was completely out of his preconceived plans. But the situa-tion was just like an arrow in the string, it had to be fired.
He was well aware that helping these girls to escape the hell would likely change the fate of many of them.
“Brother, if it weren’t you, we would…” Xiu’er’s voice choked, “You are a god sent down from heaven. We will keep you in heart for the rest of our lives.”
Yang Ning smiled and whispered, “The battle is over, and soon you will all be able to return to your hometowns. Live a good life in the future.” Opening the package, he took a small bag out of it and handed the large package to Xiu’er, “Here’s some sil-ver. Distribute it. It’s not much, but it’s enough to live for a while. For girls whose parents are not alive, please share more and take good care of them.”
The silver in Xiao Yishui’s hand was all unrighteous. These girls were all refugees who had been stranded here. Giving the silver to these girls to help them tide over their difficulties was naturally the best way to deal with it.
“Brother, it’s…!”
Yang Ning shook his head, “Don’t say anymore. It’s almost dawn, hurry and get out of here…!” He tucked the package into Xiu’er’s arms, and took the small one himself. Then he threw the sword into the gutter. After that, he waved his hand, signaling the girls to leave quickly.
The girls were grateful, and they also knew that it was not appropriate to stay here for too long. Therefore, they split into two teams to the two ends of the alley. Yang Ning waited until they went out. Then he began to straighten his clothes before going out of the alley in the darkness. When seeing the girls were still outside there, he frowned and waved his hand anxiously. The girls finally disappeared in the night.
Yang Ning knew that Xiao Yishui’s death was a big deal in Huize County, because he had wide circle of friends in this place, not only in the righteous way, but also in the underworld. If the body was found the next day, it would be bound to have a big storm.
Although he would not be found out very quickly because he took advantage of the darkness, Xiao Yishui’s henchmen would eventually find him out. Nowadays, Huize County was already very dangerous for him.
In the darkness, he quickly returned to the Earth Temple.
Before he went inside, he saw Old Bark and Monkey sitting at the temple gate and waiting for him. Seeing Yang Ning coming back, Old Bark quickly got up to welcome him and asked in a low voice, “Have you seen Xiaodie? How is she now?”
Yang Ning laughed, “I have. She’s been sick these days. Now she feels better. It’s nothing serious.” He thought to himself if he told them about what happened tonight, he wondered what they would look like.
Old Bark sighed with relief and said, “That’s good. I’ve been worrying about this all night, and it would be nice to see you back.”
Yang Ning knew that Old Bark’s concern for himself was indeed from the heart. He smiled faintly, feeling quite grateful at heart.
Monkey looked a bit embarrassed and said, “Hmm… I… You didn’t come out for so long, so… I came back first and waited…”
Yang Ning just smiled and didn’t say much, but he knew in his heart that this guy was afraid of being implicated and fled such place early.
Naturally, he was not in the mood to contemplate with Monkey. He returned to the temple, and saw that several other beggars were sleeping heavily. He entered a room on one side and Old Bark followed in. Yang Ning looked outside the door, and saw that Monkey lied down on his head, looking very tired. Then he turned to the side of the straw, he took Old Bark’s hand, lowered his voice and said, “Old Bark, you should leave here.”
Old Bark was stunned. Yang Ning had already taken out the small bag he had just taken, getting out a ring and then a golden leaf. After that, he put the bag with the rest money into Old Bark’s hands.
Old Bark was numb as he saw the ring and gold leaf. When he recovered, the bag had already been in his hands. Through the faint fire light, he saw some silver, and a few pieces of golden leaf in it. He was even more shocked, he said out loud: “This is…!” Before he could finish, Yang Ning had already reached out and covered his mouth.
“Don’t talk. Hear me out.” Yang Ning moved close to Old Bark’s ear and lowered his voice.
Old Bark nodded. Only then did Yang Ning let go of his hand and whispered, “Xiao Yishui and his gang of assistant constables are trafficking people. Xiaodie has been sent to the capital…!”
Old Bark’s body shook and a look of horror appeared in his eyes. Then he clenched a fist.
“I can’t explain it to you in detail.” Yang Ning whispered, “Xiao Yishui has already been killed by me. His underlings will soon find out me. You’ve been with me all this time. If I am tracked down, you’ll be definitely implicated.”
Old Bark’s whole body shook, he certainly knew the consequences of Yang Ning’s action and was horrified, “You…you killed Xiao Yishui?”
Yang Ning nodded slightly. With serious expression, he said softly, “It’s almost dawn, the city gates will be opened soon. I can’t leave Xiaodie alone, so I’m going to look for her. Old Bark, you can’t stay here either. Take this silver with you. Now that the war is over, you can find a place, buy a small house and find a wife to live in peace…”
“Ermine…” Old Bark’s eyes became red, “Xiao Yishui, that son of a b*tch, has lost all his conscience. So many people wanted to kill him, you…you did this for the people. I’ll be with…!” He wanted to say that he would follow Ermine to look for Xiaodie. Knowing that he was old and frail, following him could only be a drag, his lips moved but he did not say anything.
Yang Ning, however, seemed to know what he meant. He smiled gently, took Old Bark’s hands, and said softly, “It’s a long way to the capital, and even I myself don’t know if I can find Xiaodie. Old Bark, you are kind and generous. If it were not your good care, I would not have survived. I will not forget your kindness.”
Old Bark was about to speak when Yang Ning shook his head and said softly, ‘‘Time is running out. Once Xiao Yishui’s corpse is found, Huize County will most likely be blockaded. Do you know when the gates of the city will be opened?”
Old Bark said, “The opening and closing of the city gates are related to the season. In this season, the city gates will be opened at fifteen to six!”
Yang Ning was quite familiar with the correspondence of the ancient and modern times. He thought for a moment before saying, “Please get ready now, and then go towards the northern city gate. As soon as the gate is opened, get out of the city im-mediately. Leave here as far as you can, and never come back.”
“How about you…?”
“I’m going out of town through the southern city gate.” Yang Ning said softly, “Mon-key and the others know nothing about this matter. Once it breaks out, they will be implicated and cannot stay in the city. I will take them out of the city first after dawn.”
Old Bark whispered, “We can’t tell them now, in case they are afraid of being impli-cated and will betray you behind your back, it may be…!”
“I understand.” Yang Ning smiled softly and said, “After leaving the city, I’ll let them run for their lives.”
Old Bark saw that Yang Ning had made a good arrangement and nodded slightly. Of course he knew the reason why Yang Ning let him leave alone. Obviously Yang Ning was worrying that if he were with Monkey and the others, those guys would probably go wrong when at the sight of the bag.
Placing his package to the ground, Old Bark suddenly hugged Yang Ning. He was a bit uncomfortable being held by the old beggar, but knew that this departure might be eternal. He could only pat Old Bark on the back and whispered, “Take care of your-self. If it’s god’s will, we’ll meet one day. It can’t be delayed any longer, Old Bark. You must go quickly!”
Old Bark loosened his hand, and picked up the package. He took a wooden stick with him, and walked out as quickly as he could. But when he reached the door, he looked back at Yang Ning. Yang Ning smiled and waved his hand. Old Bark choked back his tears, and left hurriedly.
